All the days

In Winter 2012, photographer Bernhard Strauss of Freiburg took the demure, yet poetic photographs of a Baaremer farm house left open. Living area and barn are presented as if they had just recently been abandoned. Nothing had been arranged or prepared for the photo shoot. In the large format images, the tools and everyday objects appear as accompaniments of the simple life.

However, the modern promise of the idyllic "life in the countryside", as advertised in lifestyle magazine headlines, will not be found in these images. Strauss shows us the memories of a past not long ago with dignity and simplicity. He portrays a modesty, pragmatism and a thriftiness, from a time where little was to left to go to waste.

The images reflect a simplicity and levelheadedness, often attributed to the old Alemannic culture of the region, hence the title All the days. Remembrances of the everyday toil and work are interwoven with memories of a mutual agreement of a life and a land that sustained its people.
